We’re one week away from Santa Ana’s special elections. The city is holding two special elections to fill vacant seats on the Santa Ana Unified School Board and City Council Ward 4.

For these two seats, we’re excited to support Carolyn Torres for Santa Ana School Board and Manny Escamilla for Santa Ana City Council Ward 4.

Carolyn Torress, School Board Candidate
Manny Escamilla, City Council Ward 4 Candidate

Throughout this election cycle Carolyn and Manny differentiated from other candidates by running grassroots, people powered campaigns while supporting progressive policies to uplift and invest in working class families in Santa Ana.

Carolyn is a public school teacher with 15 years of experience. She is running to bring this experience to the school board, ensure local control and fiscal responsibility, and work to reduce class sizes. Through her campaign, Carolyn has won the support of many Santa Ana teachers (1), students, and parents.

Manny has spent the last 14 years working serving Santa Ana as an urban planner, librarian, and historian. As a candidate he has been supportive of stronger tenant protections for Santa Ana residents such as Just Cause evictions, and ensuring that public land like the 102 acre Willowick Golf Course is used to serve residents. Manny has also opposed the $25 Million police union contract approved by the current council, as well as the regressive sales tax passed under Measure X (2).

This special election is extremely important, and we are ecstatic to have two progressive community champions that  reflect our community’s values and priorities, all the while running strong grassroots campaigns.
